While producing the wooden and wood-aluminium windows of Kalesi, the technical requirements worked out in Europe for the given type of window are closely followed. All the required materials are used to guarantee the best stability of the windows and long-term resistance to the climate.

The new window profile has been worked out in production, which guarantee that the windows are highly thermal and sound-proof. We use on the lower horizontal surfaces the new click-portable aluminium weathertight and durable water drips that are especially easy to change in case they are damaged during construction work or use.

For timber pest and mould prevention, as well as for better adhesion of the finishing paint to the timber and prevention of paint cracking, we use a range of water-based impregnation and paint products with the highest elasticity level manufactured by the German company Remmers.

Compensation sealing has been installed on all windows (between window glass and frame), which avoids the formation of  cracks in window glasses as a result of expanding window materials. The given sealing improves also the thermal and sound-proof qualities of the window and guarantees a better water-proof quality.

Kalesi wooden windows last for a long time!

Kalesi wooden windows have long resistance against th e impact of the
external environment, they protect living rooms against noise and dust and
give good thermal insulation.

MODERN WOODEN TILT & TURN WINDOWS – material and finishing

Standard Kalesi wooden windows are manufactured from pine laminated timber, but as a special order we also manufacture windows from spruce, merant, oak, eucalypt, mahogany, teak etc. For finishing we can use paint or a stain (glaze). In addition we may paint wooden windows with different colours inside and outside, although this option will slightly increase the price.

Wooden windows are especially attractive when finished with a stain. Yet for the external finishing of a wooden window it is not recommended to use fully transparent stains or glazes, since the UV resistance thereof is poor. Wood’s tone changes over time due to the combined impact of moisture and UV rays The impact of UV rays also reduces the adhesion properties of the paint with the wood and very often paint starts flaking off from the lower parts of the windows and balcony doors.

Attention – wooden windows in darker shades!

Full warranties do not apply to wooden windows made of pine laminated timber or any other softwood timber in the event that the external side is finished with paint or a glaze in a dark shade. The resin pockets in the surface layer of softwood timber may start ‘boiling’ and press themselves in the form of a bubble under the external paint coating, and later on pop through the paint on the external surface of the finishing layer.

Wooden windows – construction and other materials

As wooden windows are exposed to harsh conditions, materials of high quality have to be used. Wooden materials move, due to temperature fluctuations and moisture. Wooden windows are made of several profiles, and in order to avoid cracking their joints have to be filled with flexible joint mastic, and the joints must be tight. The paint on a wooden window must be of very high quality and flexible to prevent the development of cracks on the paint surface in the event that the horizontal and vertical joints expand or shrink and in the case of major temperature fluctuations. Otherwise moisture gets between the wood and paint via the cracks and causes it to flake off. Also, UV rays cause the wood to decompose.

One of the key factors in the long lifetime of a wooden window is the self-ventilation capability of the window construction in protecting it against internal condensing water.

Wooden windows – aluminium water drips protect against weather impact.

In general, the lower horizontal surfaces of wooden windows are covered with aluminium water drips, which protect them against dirt, accumulating dust and constant moisture and other damage caused by the weather.

Wooden windows – noise insulation

Additional seals and a special glazed unit give good noise insulation. It should be considered that one part of a glazed unit with good sound insulation is either a thicker and/or laminated glass pane, which makes the window heavy. Thus the size of such openable wooden windows cannot be too big.

Wooden windows – safety

Additional safety of a window is in the first place ensured by the choice of glass. Laminated and/or high-tempered glass and safety locking systems are used. Safety locking systems make it difficult to pull the window or balcony door out of the lock plate installed in the frame sash, as the moving lock plates come with T-shaped heads. In addition, a handle with a lock can be installed.

Wooden windows – ordering

When placing an order for new windows, be sure to see that they are convenient to use and maintain and that they match the other windows and the façade of the building. It also makes sense to see that the new wooden windows match the colour of the roof, doors and other windows.

Wooden windows
are façade elements of a building whose function is to let light into a room and also fresh air during the heating period. Thus, before placing an order, please consider whether you may also need accessories such as an insect screen or ventilation valves, and think about the colour shade of water drips etc.

Wooden windows – maintenance

In general, wooden windows do not require any other regular maintenance than checking and greasing of the locking system once a year and, if required, also adjustment. Window seals should also be cleaned. Although we use modern impregnation and paint products with very high quality to manufacture

Kalesi wooden windows
, the painted surface of wooden windows requires partial improvement after approximately 7-10 years. Wooden windows installed on the southern and western sides are always exposed to more difficult weather conditions. Regarding windows installed on the eastern and northern sides, the requirement to improve painted surfaces arises slightly later.

In order to avoid the development of micro-cracks in the window paint and to prolong the interval before improvement is required, the surface of wooden windows should be cleaned at least once a year and treated with a special balsam. Products required to maintain wooden windows can be purchased from the Kalesi window factory.

Wooden-aluminium windows are not fully maintenance-free either. Although the cover profile made of aluminium efficiently protects wood against weather impact, darker powder-coated wooden-aluminium windows installed on the southern and western sides bleach, influenced by intensive UV rays, in approximately 5-7 years. Regarding windows installed on the eastern and northern sides, the requirement to freshen up the painted surfaces arises slightly later. Yet the external surface of anodised (natural aluminium, light and dark bronze) aluminium profiles covered with a light powder coating is long-lasting and maintenance-free.

MAJOR DIFFERENCES: WOODEN WINDOWS vs WOODEN-ALUMINIUM WINDOWS

Wooden windows
  • The lower horizontal surfaces of a wooden window are covered with an aluminium profile.
  • There are no limits in shapes and sizes.
  • In most cases wooden windows need to be partially repainted on the southern and western sides after 7-10 years; on the northern side later.
  • Remarkably more favourable price.

Wooden-aluminium windows

  • The external surface of the sash and frame is covered with aluminium profiles.
  • Wooden-aluminium windows are maintenance-free in the event that light shades and anodised aluminium profiles are used. In the case of darker shades, the paint on windows installed on southern and western sides bleaches in approximately 5 years. Proper repainting of an aluminium cover is relatively complicated.
  • Manufacturing of windows in special shapes is somewhat limited.
  • Thermal and noise insulation does not improve compared to wooden windows.
  • Remarkably higher price.
